Tough going....

Good grief what a week!! This time last week I was on the phone talking to our CFM consultant Kerien and he was telling me that a building down town was in danger of falling over with people in it. Hard to believe. Then....I saw the 6pm News and life will never be the same again. I had only just been into the CBD just a half hour before the wave hit..funny how life works out sometimes, I had decided to head home and the rain was too heavy and I didn't feel like shopping.

After the initial shock during the following days I couldn't help but think of all the people cut off from their food supplies especially the people with allergies and intolerance's. I went and took a look at the GF food at the major shopping centers that I could reach and was happy to see most products still available, at least WE know how to live without bread and milk.!

It was also lovely to read that Melinda's was distributing food down there in Brisbane, thinking of the Gluten Intolerant members of the Mud Army. The Coeliac Society where also on the case. Good to take care of your own. There was a story of a couple of Coeliac's living on chips and fruit for 3 days!

There is a movement towards buying Qld products, not only do I fully support this movement but hope to do my part as well by stocking as many GF Wholesalers in the store as possible. Even a local Toowoomba product Brighter Life will be on our shelves!

Of course the whole idea of our store is CHOICE. Something that people with food intolerance's don't usually enjoy! Therefore we will be stocking imported products as well. However the majority will be true blue Aussie products!!!

Delays...delays...delays...

Wow....the fate of the shop lies solely at the whim of others....the quest stands upon the precipice of defeat. Well...not quite but the delays are driving me crazy, combine that with weeks of never ending rain......cabin fever.
I've had to set back the opening date again because the work to refit the shop will take longer than expected, I suppose as a Coeliac....I've learnt to be patient and tolerant...but geeze. I really want to get going. I have appease my retail therapy withdrawls buy purchasing more books for the shop.
This time I thought I'd go for the sense of humor and I have some Poo and Fart books coming...something we can all relate too!

I have a Dream....

....that all stomachs are created equal. I dream of a grocery store that stocks all my food.....GF bread rolls, DIFFERENT types of GF bread, crackers, dips, lollies all the food I have to hunt through the different supermarkets to find and am generally disappointed to find they are out of stock or simply don't stock anymore.

That's the Dream
Totally Gluten Free Toowoomba will be the reality of that Dream!!

Just hope I don't eat all my profits!!!
Early Feb 2011 is what I'm aiming for, but with Real estate Agents on holidays, wholesalers closed over Christmas its hard to get the ball rolling early in the year.

Fear not fellow wheat haters....we will have our utopia!!

It all starts with shopping RAGE.....

Ever driven across town in crappy traffic, just to find the supermarket shelf empty of your favourite Gluten Free product, that you purposely drove across town to get??? This invokes what I call "Lack of my favourite Gluten Free Product Rage" not to mention the accompanying "Road Rage", "People Walking Too Slowly In Front Of Me Rage" closely followed by trolley rage!

That's alot of rage.....

What solution to my quest??? Beg for understanding at the powerless, Gluten Free product ignorant sales assistant?  Or vent at the Coeliac weary family.......whispering "Why can't you just make your own" under their breaths.

Why??? Why?? I'm sick of making everything from scratch! I want my food available all the time when I feel like it damn it!

I was diagnosed 12 years ago and when I first started out that's what everyone did...made everything. Now after years of slogging it in the kitchen, a busy lifestyle and a vast improvement in the quality and taste of Gluten Free food....I have a dream...
